Weight loss pace is determined by your calorie deficit: every 7,700-calorie cumulative deficit equates to approximately 1 kg of fat loss (3,500 calories per pound). This calculator uses that relationship to estimate how long it will take to reach a target weight at a given daily deficit. A sustainable pace is 0.5–1% of body weight per week — more aggressive deficits risk muscle loss, hormonal disruption, and metabolic adaptation. Safe weekly loss ranges from 0.25–0.5 kg for people with less to lose, to 0.75–1 kg for those with a higher starting body fat. The calculator also flags deficits below 1,200 kcal/day (women) or 1,500 kcal/day (men) as potentially unsafe.
How to interpret your results
Your result shows the estimated weeks to reach your target weight at the entered deficit. Add 10–15% buffer time to the estimate because real-world progress is never perfectly linear — weight loss stalls, social events disrupt eating, and metabolic adaptation slows the rate over time. If the timeline feels discouraging, adjust your target. You do not need to reach goal weight in one continuous cut — many people find "diet breaks" (2–4 weeks at maintenance calories between cuts) improve adherence, reduce metabolic adaptation, and produce better long-term outcomes than continuous restriction.
